Coaching: Work, Life, and Wellbeing

Work

Coaching involves working towards specific work and life goals. Here we explore and identify where you want to be, and what steps you take to achieve that goal. It is action oriented. Along the way it may mean identifying and dealing with roadblocks, and continuing on towards your ultimate goal. Our focus is NOT on the past as such, but on what you can achieve moving forward.

In the world of ‘work’ Supervision is a term that has been around for a long time used for a variety of environments. In my books, the term has passed its use-by date as it has a negative connotation! I prefer to use the term Coaching Mentor to describe the relationship I may engage with an individual supporting their work.

The Coaching Mentor relationship needs to be a safe space where you can personally reflect on your work and what you as the professional bring. It is also a place where you can be accountable for your work as you work closely with people if you are in the ‘helping profession’. It is also a place where you can build on your skills and confidence and reach your career goals.

Regular supervision is also a requirement for registration for psychologists, Accredited Mental Health Social Workers and Counsellors.

Coaching mentoring is the place where you can offload some work challenges, workplace relationships and can learn how to address the challenges that their role requires of them, and to improve longevity.

These services are offered via any one of the following:

  1. Face to face

  2. ZOOM/video conferencing

  3. Telephone

Counselling vs Psychotherapy

Counselling and Psychotherapy are different approaches though they can look slightly similar.

Counselling is short term and usually deal with situational issues to do with communication, conflict, decision making etc.

Psychotherapy involves a deeper approach which can involve looking at patterns, beliefs and thought processes, family of origin and childhood experiences, looking at the root causes of situations and your participation in that. It addresses conscious and unconscious thoughts, feelings and behaviours.

“Character cannot be developed in ease and quiet. Only through experience of trial and suffering can the soul be strengthened, ambition inspired, and success achieved.”

– Hellen Keller
